Net salary FAQ: estimates, sources, privacy and tax tables

Answers about the Netpay net salary calculator: how accurate it is, which official sources it uses, privacy, the Swedish table, German tax classes and UK allowances.

Diese Seite ist auf Englisch verfasst.

Is the result my real net salary?

No. It is an estimate for a standard situation: one employee salary, no other income, no special deductions and no benefits in kind. Your payslip also depends on your tax code or tax card, your employer's pension and insurance schemes and corrections made during the year. Use the estimate to compare offers and plan a budget, and your payslip for the exact figure.

Which countries and tax years are covered?

Sweden, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands for 2026, and the United Kingdom for the 2026/27 tax year. Each country page shows the date its rules were last compared with the official documents and links to those documents.

Where do the tax rules come from?

From tax authorities and legal texts only: Skatteverket in Sweden, Skatteetaten and the Norwegian government in Norway, the Federal Ministry of Finance and the statutes in Germany, the Belastingdienst in the Netherlands, and GOV.UK in the United Kingdom. The method page lists every source and the values that the calculator is tested against.

Do you store my salary?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, nothing you type is sent to a server and nothing is saved between visits. The only thing stored on your device is your cookie choice.

Why is my monthly net pay different from one twelfth of the yearly figure?

Netpay shows one twelfth of the yearly figure. Some employers withhold differently over the year. Norwegian employers withhold over 10.5 payslips, so a regular month is higher and June and December are lower. British employers use cumulative tax codes, and Dutch salaries often have a separate holiday allowance that is paid in May or June.

How do I choose the Swedish tax table?

The table number follows the combined municipal and regional tax rate of the municipality where you live, rounded to a whole percentage point, from 29 to 42. Skatteverket publishes the rate of every municipality, and your employer uses the table on your tax card. Most employees younger than 66 use column 1, which is what Netpay models.

What does the German tax class change?

Class I is for single employees and is the default. Class III is for the higher earner in a married couple who chose it. It applies the income tax tariff to half of the taxable income and doubles the result, which lowers monthly withholding. The final tax is settled in the annual return, so a class does not reduce the tax a couple owes in total.

Why does the UK effective rate jump between 100,000 and 125,140 GBP?

The Personal Allowance is reduced by 1 GBP for every 2 GBP of income above 100,000 GBP, so it disappears at 125,140 GBP. Every extra pound in that range raises the tax base by one and a half pounds, which makes the rate on each extra pound 60 % in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Are employer contributions included?

No. Employer contributions, such as the Swedish arbetsgivaravgifter, the Norwegian employer contribution, the German employer share of social insurance and UK employer National Insurance, are paid on top of your gross salary and do not reduce your net pay. They are part of what you cost your employer.

Does the calculator include pension contributions?

It includes the statutory pension contributions that employees pay, for example the German pension insurance and the Swedish general pension fee. Occupational pension contributions that depend on your employer's scheme, salary sacrifice and voluntary savings are not included.

What if my situation is more complex?

Each country page lists what is not modelled, such as student loans in the UK, private health insurance in Germany or the Finnmark rates in Norway. For those cases, use your payslip, your tax card or the official calculator of your tax authority, or ask an adviser.

How can I report a wrong number?

Write to the address on the contact page. Include the country, the salary and settings, and a link to the official page that shows the right value. Differences from an official table or example are fixed first.
